WHAT IS REMIX?

ReMix is a one-of-a-kind vocal camp designed to teach and inspire talented singers to further reach their potential in contemporary vocal music. Using the medium of a cappela, ReMix offers classes and performance opportunities to create a true and complete music experience for camp participants.

What can I expect to learn at ReMix?

The ReMix experience will help singers learn and develop crucial skills in music and performance. Classes on vocal technique, vocal arranging, stage presence, auditioning, beatboxing, vocal blend, and more will be taught by some of the a cappella industry's most talented experts. And not only will there be classes, but each participant will also learn numbers to film as professional music videos at the end of the week.

When and where will ReMix be held?

ReMix will be held at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. We offer two sessions to choose from. Session A: July 18-23 or Session B: July 25-30.

What is the daily schedule like at ReMix?

Each day we will meet from 9:00am-9:00pm*, with meal breaks. The day will be split into sections: certain hours of the day will be spent learning songs and planning your music video with your vocal team, and other hours will be spent in workshops and classes with guest instructors. Evenings will be a mix of rehearsal time and fun group activities. *Check-in Mon. start time TBA. Check-out Friday time TBA.

I want to improve my solo singing. Would ReMix be a good place to do that?

Absolutely! ReMix is an all-vocal workshop exploring one of the most difficult genres to sing in: a cappella. We will be focusing on topics ranging from stage presence to vocal technique to auditioning, plus many more. We'll be focusing on elements that can help your solo singing, and all aspects of your performing.

When will I get my ReMix music?

A couple weeks before ReMix begins, you will receive an email containing the songs that you will record and film for your music videos. It is expected that all songs are memorized before you arrive on the first day of ReMix. Team solo auditions will take place on the first day of ReMix. Cast solo auditions will be requested by email within 2 weeks of camp.

Is there an age limit for ReMix participants?

All participants should be between the ages of 13-18 years* old. During the week, participants will be split into "vocal teams" based on parts and skill level. For specific questions or age exceptions, please email remix@byu.edu. *12-year-olds turning 13 by August 31 are welcome.

How do I join ReMix?

Click on the Audition Now link and fill out the registration/payment form and then proceed to the audition form. You will be asked to record a 20-30 second video of you singing a song of your choice. The songs can be in any style and the videos don't need to be super high quality, your phone camera or web cam will do just fine. Our team will review the entries, and we will let you know within two weeks if you made it!

Can you tell me more about the online audition?

The online audition is quick and easy! All you need to do is upload a video to YouTube of you singing 20-30 seconds of any song (without any accompaniment). Your song can be in any style. The video quality of your audition isn't a huge deal either. Your phone camera or web-cam will do just fine. Check this sample audition video as an example. You will then copy your YouTube audition URL and include it in your registration form. (Make sure the YouTube viewing is set as "Public" or "Unlisted" so we can see it.) Once submitted, your audition will be sent to our team for review, and we'll let you know if you made it within two weeks!

I'm having trouble uploading a video for my audition. What should I do?

If you are having trouble uploading a video to YouTube, you are welcome to email your video to remix@byu.edu. (If it is a large file, you may need to use Google Drive or WeTransfer.com to send it to us.) When the registration form asks for a YouTube link, please note instead that you will be sending your audition video via email.

If you have questions about filling out your audition form, please email us at remix@byu.edu or call 801-422-7692. We're here to help!

How much does it cost to participate in ReMix?

If you are accepted into ReMix, the cost is $575* for the week. This includes lunch each day, vocal and performance instruction from some of the a cappella industry's most talented experts, skill-specific classes and workshops, camp uniform for final concert, two comp tickets to final concert, YouTube links to the professionally recorded concert videos, and much more! (Lodging not included in camp price. Click here for on-campus lodging option.) *This price is available through June 30, 2022. A late fee will be charged starting July 1, 2022.

Will there be  ReMix concert?

To respect BYU's indoor crowd restrictions, we're excited to try something new this year. In place of our live concerts, we will be filming professional music videos! Each group will work together to conceptualize a team video as well as preparing for an epic Cast video.

What is the cancellation/refund policy?

A $50 withdrawal fee will be assessed on all cancellations requested up to four weeks before the camp begins. You can withdraw yourself using our online registration system or submit your request in writing. Refund requests can be mailed to BYU Conferences and Workshops, 161 Harman Continuing Education Building, Provo, UT 84602, or faxed to 801-812-8491. No refunds will be given after June 30, 2022.

What are the registration deadlines?

Registration will close two weeks prior to the start of each session or when full. Space is very limited and we recommend registering as soon as possible, especially if you require housing.

When will I receive more information?

Pre-arrival information will be emailed to participants a couple weeks prior to the beginning of each session. Please be checking your email!

The program is full; do you have a waiting list?

Yes. To be added to the waiting list, please call 801-422-7692 or send an email to remix@byu.edu and include your name, contact info, and the session you prefer to attend. You can also submit an audition video here: https://remix.ce.byu.edu/. Please note that submitting an audition video does not guarantee acceptance into the program. Your video will be reviewed if a space becomes available and you will be notified by email if you are able to register.

When is check–in/check-out?

Check–in is Monday (time TBA) in the Harris Fine Arts center gallery.

Chek-out will be Saturday morning (time TBA)

What if I arrive before or after check-in?

If you need to arrive early, you are welcome to come to the Harris Fine Arts Center to wait for check-in to open. If you need to arrive late (due to flight scheduling, etc.), please email us at remix@byu.edu and we will make accommodations for checking you in later.

What should I wear to ReMix?

Please wear clothes and shoes that allow you to be comfortable as you move and rehearse. Since we are on BYU campus, we are asked that all clothes comply with the BYU Honor Codes (shorts should reach your knees, no sleeveless shirts, or tank tops, etc.). For the music video filming, we will provide your shirt. You will need to bring a pair of dark jeans and black shoes (remember that you’ll need to move and dance in whatever you bring).

What is the BYU Honor Code?

Participants attending the workshop are required to uphold guidelines as represented in the Honor Code. They must maintain the standards of Brigham Young University (i.e., high standards of honor, integrity, language, and morality; abstinence from tobacco, alcohol, coffee, tea, and harmful drugs; and modesty in dress). Shorts and skirts worn on campus must be knee length; no sleeveless shirts, bare midriffs, or tank tops are permitted. Dress standards are strictly enforced. Participants found in violation of the Honor Code are subject to immediate dismissal without a refund. Parents are responsible for picking up a participant who has been dismissed and paying any costs incurred for transportation. We are committed to providing a learning atmosphere that reasonably accommodates persons with disabilities who are otherwise qualified. Prior to registration, applicants with disabilities are invited to discuss the program content and available facilities with the program director.

Does ReMix provide any lodging for participants? What is the cost?

On-campus housing is available for ReMix participants for an additional $285*. This fee includes double–occupancy accommodations in campus residence halls from Monday evening through Saturday morning, with bed and bath linen provided. Meals are provided from Monday dinner through the following Saturday breakfast. Note: If participants age 13 request a roommate in the older age group (16-18), they must be siblings. *Price is subject to change. Housing is available on a first-come, first-served basis until filled.

BYU does not coordinate any shuttle services between the Salt Lake City Airport and Provo. There are companies that offer shuttle services between the airport and Provo, but you will need to contact them directly. You can call Express Shuttle at 1-800-397-0773. It is up to each participant to find his or her own transportation to and from BYU.

Should I stay in campus housing or commute?

This is an individual decision. If you stay in campus housing, you will share an apartment with other ReMix participants and your assigned counselor will also stay overnight in your residence hall. Campus housing participants are not allowed to leave the residence halls after the head count. *All ReMix participants will be assigned to a counselor. Commuter participants are required to attend all evening activities. Commuters need to be picked up by an adult or escorted by a counselor to their vehicle after the evening rehearsals/activities.

Where is the housing?

Campus housing is in either Heritage Halls or Helaman Halls. Residence halls are double occupancy with shared bathrooms down the hall. The decision of which Halls is made a few months before ReMix. Housing is available on a first–come, first–served basis until the spaces are filled. Early registration is encouraged as spaces are limited. We can confirm availability of housing instantaneously if you register by phone or online.

How can I be matched up with my preferred roommate?

To request a specific roommate, you must provide that roommate's name when registering. The roommate must also give us your name with his or her registration. If you register and choose a roommate but that person doesn't register for housing by the time it is filled or doesn't enroll, you will be paired up with another participant attending the program. Participants will be paired with roommates of similar age (14-15 and 16-18). If participants from different age groups wish to share a room, they will be placed in housing designated for 16-18 year olds. You must room with someone attending ReMix.

Is early housing available?

Early housing is not available through BYU this year. If you are flying in Sunday, you will need to make your own arrangements for that evening.

What should I bring for housing?

Bed and bath linen are provided. Bring extra towels, alarm clock, bar soap, shampoo, slippers, drinking cup, bathrobe, sweats, and personal items. A suggested packing list will be sent out a couple weeks prior to the camp.

Where do I get dinner if I don't stay in housing?

Workshop participants eat in the Cannon Center cafeteria or at the Cougareat in the Wilikinson Center. Those staying in housing are given a meal card good for breakfasts, lunches, and dinners at the Cannon Center cafeteria. Those who are commuting are given lunches only. You may bring or buy dinner on a day–to–day basis in the cafeteria or the Cougareat. Meals range from $8 to $15.

I have a disability—can you accommodate me?

We are committed to providing a learning atmosphere that reasonably accommodates persons with disabilities who are otherwise qualified. Prior to registration, applicants with disabilities are invited to discuss the program content and available facilities with the program director. Those with disabilities who desire to register should call 801–422–7692.

Can you give participant information to carpool?

Unfortunately, for confidentiality, we don't offer this information any longer. You are welcome make these connections with participants you meet the first couple days.
